It had bothered Firecat that Silverfang ordered them around. He wasn't even a real fisher, how would he know what to do? And then, Shellslip agreed, and she sighed deeply. She watched Silverfang showing off with his glaive, at least, it felt to her that he was doing so, but when he slipped and fell, she couldn't suppress a roaring laughter. She sank through her knees while Shellslip offered a hand. "I'm sorry," she laughed, "that just looked so funny!!"

Shellslip sighed under her breath, shaking her head as she pulled Silverfang from the water. A little laughter and teasing was okay, but hopefully Silverfang wouldn't let Firecat's words sting him; the poor boy's confidence might take a blow if he did.
On the other hand, the slip didn't say much about his reputation as a stealthy hunter. The glaive probably wasn't a good thing to fish with, either. It was a large, clumsy thing even cut down to elf-size. Really, the whole thing was impractical unless one was going up against a bear (and even then the odd blade would be difficult). Was that what had the trolls been thinking when they made it?
"Will you be all right? Maybe you should try fishing by hand or knife," Shellslip offered.

"No, I'm fine. I-I'm just better at hunting land animals," he said. He turned back towards the river to hide his blush. He hated being laughed at. He tried to not let it get to him, but it wasn't working so well.Though his weapon was odd, he wouldn't trade it for any other in the world. He spent many moons training with it in order use it as an effective weapon, and in time he had come to love it. It was an extension of himself; to give it up would be like cutting off his arm. Though, the blade was awkward, he had learned to use it effectively. Well, almost effectively. Both the inner and outer edges were bladed, so that did help him in battle. However, he wasn't used to using the pointed end alone, as what he would have to do with fishing. He jabbed his glaive into the water again and pulled out a fish. About time, he thought.

Firecat's laughter died away when Silverfang insisted of using his glaive, and with a sigh, she shook her head -- only to see him catch a fish with the thing, moments later. "I'm going to move up the river," she told the other two. "No use of staying here with the three of us. We'll scare away the fish."

"Yes, I think so too," Shellslip agreed, and patted Silverfang on the back. "Take care, then," she said, and went with Sniffer to Firecat. "All right, let's go," she stated, and started walking. "How far do you think we should go?"

Silverfang sighed. He put the fish on the shore and went back to the river. He didn't like being laughed at, but for some reason, Firecat really got to him. He shook his head and caught another fish. He sighed again, hoping that they would be done soon and be on their way.
After catching another fish and nearly falling, Silverfang decided not to press his luck anymore. He gathered up the two fish and began to walk upstream, hoping to find some land animal to hunt, so he could make up for the lack of fish.
