The sound of the ocean lapping against the sides of the boat was a soothing sound to Keta from where she lay at the bottom of it, watching clouds float lazily overhead. She could just sense distant sendings of other wavedancer pips playing in the bay's waters, but Keta felt no desire to go and join them right now.
There was only the lightest of breezes, so the boat was barely moving at all. It was drifting aimlessly in small turns and circles, much like the clouds overhead. Keta fought back a yawn, and closed her eyes to concentrate more on the sounds of the waves hitting the ship. The sun was warm, but not unpleasantly so yet - though she knew better than to fall asleep under it's deceptively soft rays. She'd learned how fast she could burn out in the open like this. And though she knew Tylah could ease the discomfort easily, that didn't give her an excuse to do so.
She didn't truly feel tired anyway, and she opened her eyes again to watch the clouds, finding herself turning the white shapes into other things in her mind. That one was a fish, and that one a Wavedancer. There was Strell's oyster farm, and that was a piece of glass like her mother shaped. "And that one's a Slaptail!" She announced to the waves, enjoying her game.

"Where?" Nahual's head bobbed behind the boat, her strawberry golden hair fanned on the water. She frowned, staring up at the white blobs. "They all look like washed up jellyfish to me."

Keta glanced back - startled, but hearing Nahual's comment she layed back down, covering her mouth as she giggled. "Wa...washed up...jellyfish?" She got out.
Calming down she pointed at a distant cloud. "There's a jellyfish not washed up!" She then began giggling again.

"It's not that funny!" Nahual grabbed the edge of the boat and ducked, rocking it hard. The huntress's head popped over the edge again. "Just because I don't see slaptails and...and magic puffers in every cloud!" She stuck out her tongue.
Nahual switched to a smile. "You're going to be just like your father, all thoughts and no doing!" She emphasized the last word teasingly and dipped below the surface again, her curls swirling near the surface.

"Whoa!" Keta clung to the boat bottom as it rocked precariously back and forth. She gave a sigh of relief when it settled. Sitting up, she shook her head at Nahual's teasing.
*Father thinks and does.* She sent to the huntress below the waves. Crouching, she peered over the edge of the boat, grinning. *You think too! You just don't like to!*

*I think about doing...and then I do it!* Nahual bumped the bottom of the boat gently with her feet, head still submerged. *It's better than thinking too long and missing chances. Speaking of which, what are you waiting for, pipling?* She teased with the diminutive word. *The sea lives under you and you're looking up?*

Keta turned back to the inside of her little boat, and knocked on top where Nahual had kicked. *I like the sea too! But even wavedancers leap in the sky for joy! Don't you ever think about...I don't know...just things? Like why the water falls softly from the sky sometimes, and other times the waves surge up to meet it angrily? Or why sometimes the dark berries Tylah picks at the shoreline taste wonderful, and others times they're yucky, and sometimes they're not there at all! And how does Strell know which oysters are good to eat, and which ones are only good for pearls? I took a dare to steal one the other day, and it didn't taste good at all, and Strell just laughed at me! And then there's the boats! Some move fast, but some tip easier and...*
Given the chance, Keta would probably go on like this endlessly. There were so many questions she wanted to know the answer to. Sometimes she thought her head was full of nothing else. Though she could also listen - for as long as it took to understand the answer. And she remembered those answers, but it only ever seemed to lead to more questions.

Nahual shook her head beneath the water, spreading her curls in a mess. *You chatter so much my head might pop! These things just are! If we know why, that's well and good, but you waste the best moments on wondering why the sea is wet, pip!*

Keta giggled outloud at the other elf's words. She wondered briefly if Nahual really didn't think about things other than things you do. And what it must be like to not wonder about things. Was accepting them enough? To Nahual it seemed to be. But maybe that was because she was older and already knew alot of the answers?
Shrugging off her ponderings, she turned back, leaning over the side of the boat to peer at the water below. *Say, why is the sea wet?* She was giggling again, her laughter evident through the sending.

Nahual grinned and rose from the water, gripping the side of the boat and thrusting it downward, rocking it so the sea water spilled over the rim, but the boat didn't tip, giving Keta quite a splash. "Ask it!" She cried and laughed, plunging under again.
----------
*Why is the sea salty and the land water fresh?* Jahtil's amused deeper sending rippled through the waters to the two. *Engaged in a battle of wits with Nahual, Keta? Even your father can't win that...*
