Arching an eyebrow at Whirlwind, Journey crossed behind her and fell in beside Softling. *Look what I found,* he told her, and pulled the bracelet out of his pouch. It was dirty, and he rubbed some of the grime off so the old metal caught a little moonlight. It was a delicate thing, twisting grape-vines, just the thing for a maiden's wrist. He handed it to Softling. *I think this would definitely suit you better than me,* he sent, winking at her.
**Ooooh, cub,** Whirlwind lock-sent, warningly. **If she smacks you with that, don't say I didn't warn you.**

"Eh..." Softling stared at the shiny trinket, startled at Journey's offer. She looked at Whirlwind beside them, then back at the trinket, flushing quickly. She couldn't help at glance at her own leather wrapped wrist, then back, before thrusting it out to him, head lowered away. *It's from one of those gone elves!* She stepped a few steps ahead quickly. *I-I might lose it.* She added.

Journey grinned. He'd noticed that quick glance Softling gave her leather-wrapped wrist. Wouldn't it be something, if the holt's shyest maiden also had a liking for shiny things?
He offered it to her again. *You won't lose it,* he remarked, *if you put it on.*
**Well, well. Taking lessons from Tallspear, are we?** came Whirlwind's amused lock-send. **Careful, Journey, you might just flirt your way into her heart if you're not careful!**

Softling noticed a glance between Whirlwind and Journey and flushed more with slight irritation. Undoubtedly Journey was getting put up to this somehow, if not by Whirlwind, then someone in the party. *I...I really don't want it!* She sent decisively. *I'm sure there's someone else who can wear it better!*
Softling suddenly felt a rush of guilt at her harsh sending to Journey, and sped up more. She really didn't mean to be offstandish. To lose a rare thing for a moment's flirtation...it just didn't feel right to take the trinket thing from him. Such a strange, precious thing from the elves who died here; she could only imagine playing with one of the wolves and breaking it. 'Why do I sound so cold?' She thought in frustration. 'I don't mean to hurt him...but he shouldn't tease me!'
Oh, how she wished the healer were here...she could talk to him from time to time.

Firecat nodded at Stormfire's words. *Aye,* she agreed, not having troubles with having to stay on guard while the rest slept or figured things out. She swiftly looked over to Oakstaff and Tallspear, who would be there with her, before she cast a mildly annoyed glance at the two youngsters. The way they reacted wasn't their fault, she knew, it was because of their age. Deep within, she still thought that it had been unwise to let those two tag along. Stormfire wasn't the most adult-like, either, but over the past moon she had matured swiftly because of the responsibilities she bore. These two, however -- they were still cubs. She would've preferred to have them kept safely with the others.

The wolves refused to stay in the cave. They nosed around, sniffed at the walls, and pawed at rocks, but while their elf-friends hunched in a circle, the wolves paced restlessly in and out. Stormfire noted their behavior, even as Whirlwind said, "The wolves know something's not right, chieftess."
"They sense something. It may be the magic." Stormfire opened her pouch and took out the egg. "This was all but handed to me," she told them. "I don't know why . . . but I'll keep it. I do know one thing: we can't stay here."
As the words left her lips, Stormfire saw her tribemates visibly sag with relief. "I know," she admitted. "I don't think there's anything for us to fear. But this place feels wrong."
Whirlwind snorted. "You said it! My skin feels ready to leap off my bones."
"Well, I'm not--" Journey began, and Windsoft gave him a level look. "I'm not afraid!" he blurted. "I don't see why we can't look around once it's daylight."
Stormfire chuckled. "Look all you want, Journey. I'm sure you can find plenty of shiny things to keep you happy. But what of you, Windsoft?" She sent to Firecat, Tallspear, and Oakstaff. *You three can tell me what's on your minds too. I know none of you are happy right now.*
*I'd just as soon tail it back to the others,* came Tallspear's blunt reply. *You've got a pretty rock, Stormfire, but there's nothing in this entire pile of rocks that makes me feel good about sleeping in or around it.*
